Change is challenging… by Sarvin Haghighi

I knew I needed to make a change in my art practice for a while now. Change is always hard and sometimes you need that extra push to think outside the box, to get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Well, that time for me has finally come. We are expecting our first child and I need to stay away from anything that is toxic. This is really hard in current art world as most mediums are somewhat toxic.

In addition, since my parents are banned to travel to the US due to the Muslim Ban, we had to make the hard choice of delivering our baby in Australia. Lots of changes at once but we are grateful to have the option at least. It could always be worse :)

I decided to go back to basics. Drawing, simple sketching, etc to bring back some ideas . I needed this change so much. It’s exciting, scary and challenging but I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Also since I knew I will be in Melbourne for few months, I decided to look for some classes, something fun to do with my mom (she is an amazing artist herself) and also learn something new. We signed up for a Japanese Ink Painting class. It was really fun to learn a new different technique. We both really enjoyed it and I am sure we can both bring this technique in some ways into our practices.

I also am now sketching for some ideas to do some sculptures. I really enjoyed sculpting when I was in Iran and I think it is something I can again start and see where it goes.

I have to see where this road takes me but hoping to be back to my studio soon with my little guy and create some new works. I will share some images once they get somewhere but for now here I am sharing some images of the class I took here in Melbourne. Not bad for the first time but of course needs more practice… Watch this space!

Pieces available now on Artsy by Sarvin Haghighi

I was honored when I was approached by ACS Gallery in Chicago to have my pieces of “The sound of silence” exhibit on their Artsy page.

The exhibition was very successful and the response was amazing. I could not be more grateful to Sergio Gomez for giving me the opportunity to show my pieces in their beautiful space at 33Contemporary Gallery located at Zhou B Art Center.

All these pieces you will see on ARTSY page are 6x6 Inches, mixed media on wood with Resin. They make great gifts for anyone who appreciates art, positivity and culture. So make sure to check them out on ACS Gallery’s Artsy Page.

Each piece has a different vibe and energy but they all are part of one series, my aim was to not have much description on pieces as I wanted the viewers to connect with each piece at their own time. I wanted to give them the space to view and feel each piece. Many of viewers wanted to know more and of course then I would share each piece’s story.

So, I invite you to have a look at the pieces, pick the ones which speak to you and feel free to contact me if you want to know more about them. You can always come and see them in person at my studio located at Zhou B Art Center.

We live in a busy and loud world where we are online all the time and seems to not be able to have quite time or communicate in the right way. I wanted to create an exhibition and invite the viewers to slow their day down, enjoy the pieces in silence and connect with them directly, try to figure out the story they wish to tell. My aim has always been to create pieces which are not only visually interesting (hopefully!) but also starts a dialogue. That is when we can start to find that common ground, no matter where we come from, what religion we follow or what color of skin we have.

I was honored when Sergio Gomez asked me to exhibit at his beautiful space, 33 Contemporary Gallery located at Zhou B Art Center. My vision was to create a show where pieces speaks to viewers and also make them affordable. The show comes to life with 53 pieces, all 6x6 inches. 5 and 3 have always been my numbers throughout life and one day looking them up out of curiosity,  realized 5 symbolizes Freedom and 3 symbolizes Creativity and everything started to fall into place even more.

Each piece has a different look and all are different from one another but they all have one thing in common, the love and energy they carry, the shapes which might seem familiar from the Persian and Islamic architectural shapes, the vibrant colors of Persian rugs, the beautiful Farsi calligraphy and Rumi poetry which is only a small part of the rich and beautiful culture of my motherland.

I invite you to enjoy the silence of the space, if you listen, you will hear the pieces talking to you, they are telling you their story. While going through the creation process, I was reminded by below quote by Rumi:-

"Listen to silence, it has so much to say"
